Global Alliance for Literacy (GAL)

The International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA) VII: The regional Preparatory Conference for the International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA) VII with the technical support of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and other partners. (CONFINTEA) VII is the key in renewing political momentum and commitment for the development of Adult Learning and Education (ALE) in the context of the Belem Framework of Action (BFA) and the recommendation on adult learning and education (RALE, 2015) toward the CONFINTEA VII next year. More than 50 countries participated in these sub-regional consultations. The regional preparatory conference will review all inputs of sub-regional consultations and develop the regional recommendations for the CONFINTEA VII next year. Annual General Meeting of Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning (GAL): Global Alliance for Literacy within the Framework of Lifelong Learning (GAL) has contributed new momentum to the Education 2030 agenda. The alliance was conceived as a multi- stakeholder partnership to promote youth and adult literacy on the international stage and expand advocacy efforts in favour of the literacy cause globally and at national level. Thus, the initiative supports the achievements of Sustainable Development Goal 4, Target 4.6: ‘By 2030, ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy and numeracy. This will contribute to improve GAL stakeholders (inter-sectoral) collaboration for literacy/numeracy, and to enhance knowledge creation and sharing for evidence-based policy design and implementation. This GAL meeting announce in March to November each year.
