Announcement : UNESCO / People’s Republic of China – The Great Wall Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme 2026-2027

 

The Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026-2027 edition of the Great Wall Fellowships Programme, jointly sponsored by UNESCO and the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

What the Fellowship Offers

  • A total of 75 fully funded fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate, postgraduate, or visiting-scholar levels in a wide range of fields including education, culture, communication, science, technology and more.

  • Study options: one-year Visiting Scholar programmes (General or Senior), or full Master’s / Doctoral degree programmes (2 to 5 years).

  • Full support package: tuition waiver, accommodation, stipend, medical insurance — plus travel and living allowances where applicable.

Who Can Apply

  • Candidates from eligible developing countries including Pakistan.

  • Educational and age requirements vary depending on programme type. For example, for Visiting Scholar (General) — applicants must hold a high-school diploma (or more) and be under 45 years old; for Senior Visiting Scholar — a Master’s (or equivalent) and under 50 years old.

  • For degree programmes: Bachelor’s degree required for Master’s; Master’s degree for Doctoral.

  • Language proficiency: For English-taught programmes — proof of English (e.g. IELTS/TOEFL); for Chinese-taught programmes — required Chinese proficiency (HSK) per university requirements.

How to Apply through the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO

  1. Applicants are required to complete the online application via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System, in accordance with UNESCO's official guidelines.

  2. In addition, hard copies of the completed application form along with all requisite supporting documents (as prescribed by the UNESCO Fellowship Secretariat) must be submitted through the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO.

  3. All applicants are kindly requested to send the complete hard-copy application package to the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO no later than 23 January 2026. Late or incomplete submissions will not be entertained.
